These criteria apply in case of a situation where the club does not have enough space for every team registering. These criteria will help to determine which team gets priority.
All CCA rules of curling apply unless specified otherwise in this list of rule exceptions.
All games are 8 ends long, except Doubles (6 ends) or if agreed otherwise by both Teams or if a majority of players in the League vote otherwise.
5 Rock Rule: SCC has now adopted the “5 Rock Free Guard Zone”. Details can be found here.
If the game ends in a tie during League play, it remains tied. During Playoffs or Bonspiels, ties will be decided by Skips draw to the button.
Spares are allowed but spares cannot throw last stones. A team can only bring in a maximum of two spares who are not registered in that League, and must have at least two original team members present. Spares can play any position, except in mixed curling when men and women must alternate. Skips are responsible for getting spares.
The position of rinks for the first round of play shall be based on records from the previous season.
New teams start at the bottom of the lowest group.
Skips are responsible for marking down their wins or losses. If a square is left blank at the end of the round that team will automatically be assessed a loss.
Teams must play as games as shown on the Draws Schedule. To deviate from the Schedule, Skips must both agree and then are responsible to make their own arrangements when changing games or time/date of play.
The Double Board is earned when a player knocks two of the opposition rocks from the house out of play with one of his/her own stones. The Team holding the Double Board at the end of the draw (all games completed) will receive a round of drinks (4 beverages) in the lounge. All Double Board awards must be claimed on the same day as earned.
Points for League play are awarded for Wins, Losses and Ties. If Teams are separated into Groups for a portion of League play, the point system will be:
The Aggregate winner is the team with the most total points at the end of the regular League round robin.
SCC Playoff Rules:
League Playoff If there is a Bonspiel type playoff it is the team who wins the A side. If the playoff is a round robin style it is the team with the most wins.
Practice Ice: If a sheet is free during regular curling League play, SCC members from any League can practice for free. Non-members pay according to the ice rental fee schedule. The ice rental fee schedule applies to both members and non-members anytime the Club has to be opened for use (i.e. outside the hours of regular League play).
